About Francis Mary & Cornelius
Francis Mary was created in 2004 with a dark, Gothic theme in mind.
The goal was to give her an Emily the Strange appearance, but with color.
The cat did not have a name at the time and was more of an accessory to the Francis Mary sketches.
She was drawn for fun and was never meant to be anything other than a personal project.
She was hidden away for a few years, collecting dust on my computer, but brought back out in 2006.
I'm not a dark person and enjoy color, fun, quirkiness, love, light and positivity. The Gothic theme had to go.
I didn't want to change her too much, but she needed a cuter face, while hanging on to her weird, quirky style. I knew her hair would always be black and her eyes would remain teal. At the time, her hair style and clothes were still an uncertainty.
The color of her clothes were lightened up, but kept her black outline.
Between 2010 and 2013, I got rid of the black outline (besides her hair, eyelash area and the cat).
It gave her a softer appearance and the ponytails gave her a younger look, which I liked alot.
At this time, the name Cornelius popped into my head for the cat. I knew he would be intelligent
with a dry sense of humor.
In time, there might be a few changes to him, but not much. He's not an exact copy, but reminds me
of Boo-Boo Kitty from Laverne and Shirley (1970's TV show), although his nose and ears will never be
pink.
Francis Mary and Cornelius have always been and will always be close to my heart.
They are one of those sketches and or art pieces that never get thrown out or packed away permanently.
Thanks for stopping by. :)
